Don't Miss these Classes and Instructors at Georgia Bushcraft

We've already introduced a few instructors that you can expect to see at the 2024 Georgia Bushcraft Fall Gathering in part one of our Instructor Introduction, but there are dozens of them, and we wanted to share a few more of the wonderful and knowledgeable folks you can expect to see in Watkinsville this November.

Joe Flowers

Let's start with a familiar face to many at Georgia Bushcraft and the bushcraft/survival world at large. Mr. Joe Flowers is a well-known knife designer, zoologist, writer, entomologist, expedition guide, and Godzilla enthusiast. Joe owns Bushcraft Global, a guide company that specializes in leading groups into the jungles of Brazil, Colombia, and Peru. Joe is now leading US-based expeditions in the southeastern USA. As a knife user, Joe travels the world in search of knowledge and to learn about the world of knives. He has designed best-selling models for TOPS Knives, Work Tuff Knives, Artisan Cutlery, and CJRB Cutlery, and he is the main designer for Condor Tool and Knife.

Be sure to check out his classes, Billy Can Construction & Cooking, Kids Bug Hunt, and Night Time Bug Rave.

James Gibson

Mr. Gibson needs no introduction, but we'll still give him one. As a legendary knifemaker and ABS Journeyman Bladesmith, James' knives are highly sought after. He's also a renowned knife designer and has a number of production models available through ESEE Knives. Alongside his knife making, James has decades of experience teaching a wide range of wilderness skills, including flint knapping, primitive fire starting, shelter building, and much more. Over the last 40 years, he's trained with a number of legendary instructors and authors in the world of bushcraft in order to increase his skills and to combine that knowledge with what he's learned as a lifelong resident of the Smokey Mountains. He knows the high mountains, deep hollows, and cold streams of that region extremely well.

At this upcoming Fall Gathering he'll be teaching Leather Journal Workshop and Primitive Bone Needle Workshop.

Jayberry Miller

Jayberry is the founder of Tuff Possum Gear, makers and purveyors of softgoods for the wilderness and urban settings. His designs range from new takes on classic items, like the Survival Scarf and the Shackleton Satchel, to carry products that compliment your preexisting gear, like center zip pouches and more.

However, Jayberry knows his way around quite a few more skills than just operating a sewing machine. Be sure to check out his class, Why Consider Lockpicking for an interesting take on the reasoning and practical value behind this often overlooked skillset.

Mark "Merriwether" Vorderbruggep, Ph. D

Readers of the Georgia Bushcraft Blog shouldn't be strangers to Merriwether's writings, but just in case you haven't checked out his wonderful series of articles, here's a quick reintroduction. Merriwether is trained a chemist and herbalist that has been teaching people what their ancient ancestors knew about foraging edible and medicinal plants for decades. He specializes in the plants found in his native Texas, but his knowledge spans far beyond those state borders. A perfect example is his excellent class, Useful Trees, Vines, Bushes, & Weeds of Georgia, which is always a hit, so don't miss it.

Bushcraft Kelso

The man, the myth, the legend. Bushcraft Kelso is a man who's always on a quest to learn and master new skills, and he's not just in the books. A voracious experimenter, he crafts all kinds of unique items to assist him on his bushcraft journey. He's also a frequent guest at the GABC farm, where he teaches multiday classes that cover a wide variety of skill sets. While he specializes in wilderness and survival skills pertinent to the southeastern United States, he studies instructors and primitive skills from around the world. Be sure to check out his classes DIY Gear Hacks and Sewing Kit Spools at the upcoming event, and check out his booth for some truly unique kit.
